Farmer's Choice Boxes (Our CSA Alternative)
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is an amazing system that connects consumers directly to their farmers. "Know your farmer, know your food." It's an important mantra. However, we feel that the traditional CSA model in which a customer pays upfront for an entire season of produce - often $400-$700 - is inaccessible for many folks in our community. It also places a lot of pressure on the farmer as farming in any manner is at the mercy of Mother Nature; so many factors are completely out of a grower's control. Each year we’ve lived at this property, the season has reduced in length either at the beginning of the season, at the end, or both. The weather and temperature fluctuations have become increasingly extreme. The thought of accepting a sum equal to someone's rent or mortgage payment but not being able to deliver on my promise just felt too risky for all parties when parenting is my full-time job and farming is my part-time one.
When COVID hit, we were overwhelmed and blown away at the website traffic we received. Emails poured in from folks asking to sign up for our CSA program, and I felt so badly whenever I had to tell someone that we didn't offer a traditional CSA. To meet customer demand and to stay afloat during such an economically-challenging time, we decided to adopt a modified pay-as-you-go model and were thrilled that it was so well received. In fact, our customers seemed to love it so much that we decided to keep it going in 2021!
For a very economical price of $20, we offer the best of whatever is in season. Typically this is 6-8 items, sometimes a bit more in the peak season, but the value always meets or exceeds $20. Our customers get a great value for their dollars spent and we can rest easy in knowing we have a sales outlet that allows us to move many retail items at one time. If this sounds like a good fit for you and your family, please get in touch with us so we can add you to our weekly fresh sheet newsletter! We are so excited to grow for you this season.
